Navigating Federal Contracting: A Comprehensive Guide to the Basics in the  United States

The federal government remains one of the largest purchasers of IT staffing and consulting services in Canada. In 2022, contract awards in this category peaked at $3.5 billion—a substantial increase from $2.9 billion in 2021—as firms faced acute talent shortages and pent-up demand following the reopening of the economy.

However, as economic headwinds emerged toward the end of 2022, federal spending in this area began to decline, dropping to $2.3 billion in 2023 and further to $1.7 billion in 2024. This marks a significant contraction in government investment in IT services.

We have compiled a list of the top vendors to the federal government under the category of “Information Technology and Telecommunications Consultants,” each of which secured more than $10 million in contracts in 2024.
