As Statcan released their new labour force survey, we took a dive into wage data and how it evolved in October compared to the year prior.
Overall, Canadian wages increased by 4.9%.
Union vs Non-Union
A small part is still driven by unionized sectors as companies with union participation are striking new agreements, which would allow catching up with wage growth that had been seen in the rest of the economy in the past years.
Nonetheless, workers with no union coverage have seen a larger increase at 5.5%, while the unionized space has only seen a growth of 3.9%. Having said that, in a general manner, unionized workers still benefit from wages that are in average 8.5% higher than their non-unionized counterpart.
